Darryl Robert Bayer has been playing the trumpet since age six. He got his first trumpet lesson from his uncle, a band director. As a yound musician he was a member of the Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra. While still in high school, Darryl won solo concerto competitions with the Boston Symphony, Boston Pops, and the Greater Boston Youth Symphony performing the Haydn and Hummel Trumpet Concertos.
Darryl received his Bachelor of Arts from Boston University. In order to continue his music studies, Darryl moved to San Francisco to study with Jay Rizzetto but soon realized that he needed to be in an academic setting. With encouragement of friends in the Houston area, Darryl moved to Texas and received a full scholarship to complete his Masters Degree at University of Houston under the guidance of trumpet professor James Austin.
The road to win a symphony job was difficult but Darryl made his way into multiple finals rounds that opened doors to perform concerts with the Savannah, GA and Charleston, NC Symphonies. He also played a number of concerts with the Corpus Christi Symphony, the Grand Teton WY Orchestra and the Roundtop, TX Festival Orchestra.
Darryl moved to The Woodlands, Texas to teach at The John Cooper School and develop their instrumental music program that included multiple levels of band, orchestra and jazz ensembles. Darryl Bayer became one of the founding members of The Woodlands Symphony Orchestra and remained their principal trumpet for fifteen years. He also formed The Texas Brass Ensemble that to this day continues producing concerts and an original recording crossing over jazz/classical "Sounds of the South" that has sold internationally. Darryl Bayer and The Texas Brass were on the roster of Young Audiences of Houston for ten years, which fostered his love for teaching.
His first solo album of contemporary Christian instrumental music titled "Soaking Reign" was recorded in August of 2011. Darryl and his wife Edie believe with conviction that God comes first before all else and have committed to live their lives by faith. It is with that faith that the Bayers have launched an exciting new ministry called Kingdom Promoters dedicated to bringing the Word of God to the masses through music, teaching and preaching.
