The Bayou City 'Bones is a trombone choir whose concerts and recitals contain something for everyone. A six part Dixieland arrangement of "Bill Bailey" could very well be followed by a Bruckner chant setting or a Palestrina mass movement. You just never know! But what you will know is that you've been simultaneously educated and entertained.

The Bayou City Bones formed in October of 2000 when Dave Lafferty and John Siebern met while performing at a Harvey Phillips commemorative concert. Each had good memories of performing in a trombone choir, Dave in the Bay Bones in California and John in the East Texas State Trombone Choir. With the encouragement of David Waters, Principal Bass Trombone of the Houston Symphony, they invited fellow trombonists to join them in bi-weekly reading sessions at a local church. They were subsequently asked to perform there. They decided they liked performing and have been seeking performance opportunities.

They have performed at Tallowood Baptist Church, The Woodlands Concert Band, twice at The Houston Museum of Natural Science, The Woodlands High School, and numerous appearances at The Village on the Park Assisted Living Center. The group has evolved to include eleven players who meet weekly and perform music of varied styles.

Eight of the members have degrees in music. Members include: Dave Lafferty, a city of Houston police officer, John Siebern a retired Cypress Fairbanks ISD high school band director. Harvey Putsche, a fellow student with John at East Texas State University and employed by Union Pacific Railroad, Charles Austin an elementary music teacher in the Klein ISD, Dave Hargett owner of a process equipment company, Doug Brough an employee with Shell Oil Company, Jerry Clampit a retired Cypress Fairbanks ISD band director and librarian, Lane Rockoff a computer consultant, Carson Stephens a professional fundraiser for medical charities, Richard Byrd a computer consultant as well as a trombone teacher, and Jack Allen band director at Oak Ridge High in Conroe ISD.
